Natural calamities have struck the island on several occasions. Feevah was the southernmost island to be affected by the August 1815 earthquakes that jolted the Maldives' northernmost islands. The devastating cyclone of 1821 later badly devastated the island. In recent history, the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004 destroyed the island and harmed agriculture, the island's major source of income.
