It was a rainy day in B. Kudarikilu on a day in 1915. A group of people from
the north of the island were going for a walk outside since there wasn’t much to do
inside. They strolled past the old mosque that had stood for many years. They
stopped for a moment to stare at the unique carvings on the walls of the mosque that had been there when their grandparent’s grandparents had lived and walked many times on this very trail that they were now walking on. Soon they were just a few meters from the huge beach. As they threw off their footwear and started walking barefoot onto the white beach, a glint of metal caught Ali’s eye. He called his friends over to the piece of metal sticking out from the sand. Ahmed reached out and took it. It was a metallic cylinder with strange grooves on the sides of it. “What is it?” Asked Musa. “I dunno.” replied Ahmed. He was eyeing the metallic cylinder with extreme caution examining every single little place of the metallic cylinder he did not recognize from anywhere. “Let’s play with it!” Exclaimed Manik. Everyone agreed with this. They started a game of catch with it. They continued this for a few minutes. But as it landed it Musa’s hands, something
triggered. The mysterious thing started vibrating, and all these people looked at each other with sudden understanding. In a matter of seconds before anyone could react, for they were still in a terrible shock. The bomb went off with a deafening blast.
